The Bernards varsity wrestling team began their season with an overall record of 2-6 and 0-2 in their conference. The season started with a game on December 18th where New Brunswick beat Bernards 42 to 39. I talked to captain Alex Mastronardi about his feelings on the season so far.

He said “ It’s not the start we expected, but we are hoping for a big turn around soon.”  Alex Mastronardi also said “I think the teams strengths include our effort and performance against big teams. But our biggest weakness is failing to perform in high pressure situations.”

I also interviewed Coach Brothers on how the season is going so far. “Things are moving fast and moving forward. Our young team has improved tremendously since Thanksgiving. Our kids are working hard and learning a lot about the sport and themselves. The team’s strength is our talent and learning curve,  the team’s weakness is inexperience,  We are either just too young at a weight or just to new.

Our future looks bright and I look forward to continued improvement for the remaining season and for next years team for sure! Our Team Leader is Alex Mastronardi.  He has stepped us nicely and is doing a great job on and off the mat.” The team’s most recent game was against Belvidere where we lost with a close score of 36-40. Javier Zapata, John Steinfelt, Nico Arza and Justin Guimaraes were all pinned. Belvidere then forfeited to Mastronardi.
