Christmas is back in New York City! COVID canceled many of the famous celebrations last year but the city is ready to make a comeback in more ways than one. Many people are looking forward to being in NYC this time of year again. The festivities are being brought back. The Macy’s day parade for thanksgiving was already brought back after it was canceled last year. New York is trying to bring back any and all Christmas festivities this year.

According to the New York Daily News website, Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular last year was canceled. This year it is back for all to see.  Other events that were canceled included Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square, the New York Road Runners Midnight Run, the holiday markets at Union Square and Columbus Circle. These events were all previously canceled due to COVID restrictions and lockdown. Now, vaccines are mandatory to attend these places with social distance of three feet, otherwise it will be six feet apart.

The city is trying to make a comeback in every way possible. Last year for the first time since 1861 kids were not able to sit on Santas lap at Macys. Instead they would have to go on a virtual tour to Santaland. This year NYC brought Santa to malls for the little kids who want to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. The city wants to bring back the Christmas feel for all.

While COVID will still create restrictions and guidelines for ice skating rinks at Bryant Park, Brookfield Place, Rockefeller Center, and Prospect Park. NYC is trying its best to let the Christmas spirit flow through the city. All of these places require prerequisites to enter such as proof of vaccinations, masks and social distancing. The city is trying to make the festivals available for all but to open up to the public CDC guidelines must be implemented.

The Rockefeller tree last year was a disappointment. And New York is trying to make this tree better than ever. The tree was labeled as “meme worthy” by critics. They are trying to make the Rockefeller tree better this year than it was last year. The tree lighting ceremony was held on December 1st and was a huge success. The tree this year was necessary to bounce back from last year’s disaster of a Christmas tree.

New York City is trying to bring back holiday spirit and cheer after the shut downs of last year. They are reopening many closed events from last year. The city is reopening its events and attractions for all to see and all to visit. They are trying to create the festive feel and bring back Christmas life and cheer. The city will feel more festive than ever, critics and advisors say.
