Cobra Kai, the TV show revival of Karate Kid, on Netflix.

Karate Kid fans were elated with the revival of their favorite characters in the television series, Cobra Kai. This series rekindles the infamous rivalry between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence.

In the show, the indigent Johnny opens a dojo to compete against the successful Miyagi-Do which is owned by Daniel. However, antagonist Terry Silver adds a new element to this rivalry as he opens the Cobra Kai dojo in the most recent seasons. Meanwhile, protegees Miguel and Robbie assume the role Daniel and Johnny once held in the Karate Kid films.

Since its release in 2018, this series has received immense acclamation by viewers and critics alike. Because of this success, producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hyden Scholossberg have released a fifth season of Cobra Kai. Released September 9th on Netflix, season five has already proven to be as successful as the previous seasons.

In the fifth season, antagonist Terry Silver, expands the power of Cobra Kai. Silver revives the “No-Mercy” environment in which Daniel is responsible to battle against. These opposing dojos go through a season-long battle that involves both fighting and criminal activity. Meanwhile, Johnny searches for his student, Miguel, who went to Mexico to find his father.

Season five of Cobra Kai, has received an abundance of good reviews and praise. Having a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it is clear that viewers enjoyed this season. Rotten Tomatoes declares that this heartfelt melodrama has “graduated to a black belt proficiency.”

CNN writer, Brian Lowry, exclaims, “Five seasons in, the show has already surpassed any reasonable expectations.” Additionally, producer at entertainment-website Collider, Perri Nemiroff proclaims, “Team Cobra Kai does it again! Season 5 continues to show off an infectious charm and heart even as things intensify with the dojo war heading into darker territory.”

Cobra Kai’s success has left viewers begging for a season 6. Currently, Netflix has not confirmed another season. However co-creator Hayden Schlossberg hints at the continuance of this series: “There’s no official response to [season 6 speculation] right now, except we have lots of ideas. There’s time and places to make official things, we’re not at that place right now.”

It is evident that viewers are more than pleased with season five of Cobra Kai, and hope for a continuation of this beloved series. Lowry says it best: Cobra Kai “hasn’t lost its kick, as it keeps ‘Karate-Kid’-ing around.”
