Choir Preforms Annul Event

Pops Night was held on Thursday, March 26, 2012 in the Performing Arts Center. It started at 7:00 pm and was about an hour and a half long. The school started doing this last year. Mr. LaPine said “This is our second year of Pops Night, and I hope it will continue into an annual event.” Their performance was a hit and many families arrived to watch the musical performance. Mr. LaPine is in charge of the choir. He teaches vocal music at BHS and orchestra at both BHS and Bedwell. He said, “ For the choral ensemble numbers, the students and I prepare during our class period, and we also have a couple of after school rehearsals.  For the solo performances, the students create them on their own, and I help them to prepare them for the stage.”

All the songs were well known. The choir sung songs from Frozen, The Lion King, Tangled, and several other disney musicals. Some songs were “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical and “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and The Beast. Mr. LaPine picks the theme through the students. “The students submit their ideas for Pops Night theme to me via an online survey.  I take all of those ideas and narrow them down to the three that I think would work the best.  Then, the students vote from those three to determine that year’s theme.” Besides all the singing there were solo singers, dancers, and students playing instruments.

The chorus is a large group of kids who love to sing. “Singing really changed me” Isabella Volk said.  “It makes me express myself however I want” Maren Petrie said. This events gives the students more opportunities to shine aside from the winter and spring concerts. Mr. LaPine is very proud of his students. “I expect a lot of the students in my choirs, and I am proud to say that they live up to those expectations.  It is important that all members of an ensemble work together to have the best possible experience.  I love performances, but the process of how we got there is more important to me.”
