The hit Disney+ series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, came out with its second season, with the episodes starting December 10th and releasing every Wednesday until January 21st. This second season was based on the popular novel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, by Rick Riordan. With a one-year delay on this new season, it was very anticipated for it to be released.

The second season follows Percy, played by Walker Scobell, and his friends as they set out on a new–and secret–quest through the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the golden fleece and Groover, a satyr, from Polyphemus, to save Camp Half-Blood. Luke Castellan, played by Charlie Bushnell, played a larger role in this new season as his betrayal of Camp has interfered with Percy’s quest. While the same characters from the prior seasons were present, new and relevant characters were introduced. Tyson, portrayed by Daniel Diemar, is a cyclops who is revealed to be Percy’s half-brother early in the season. King Tantulas, played by Timothy Simmons, became very relevant as he was a large obstacle for Percy and Annabeth Chase in the earlier episodes.

Season two has impressed fans and critics with its heavy and intense action scenes, special effects, and the growth of each character.

A fan of the show, Caroline Adams ‘28 said that she “was really intrigued with the new season and Walker’s and the rest of the cast’s acting had improved a lot from last season”.

Another fan of the book and show, Elizabeth Sugarmann ‘28 says, “I thought the show was great and the visual effects had improved from last season”.

This new season of the series had built up action and themes with a lot of character growth that heavily recreated Rick Riordan’s Sea of Monsters novel. Percy’s leadership and loyalty, mixed with Annabeth’s intelligence and Tyson’s strength, affected the season positively. With major character growth on top of all the special effects and action-filled scenes, the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was exciting and engaging for viewers.
