Clash Royale is currently experiencing one of its highest player rates in history with approximately 56 million monthly users. However, upon its release in March of 2016, Clash Royale was not the game we know and love today. In its infancy, the game consisted of just 28 out of the current 121 cards, and 8 out of the current 25 arenas. Despite its simplicity and lack of content, the game still boomed upon its release, “I was intrigued by the concept of the game, and so I downloaded it when it first got released.” said Logan Stevens ’26.

While the overall concept of the game has remained consistent over the years, Supercell has made significant changes to the game’s content, and they have heavily expanded the game. Since 2016, they have added countless new aspects such as a ranked game mode, a rewards pass, card evolutions, champions, etc.

In its most simplistic form, Clash Royale is a layer versus player, online multiplayer game, where users create a custom deck to square off against other decks. These decks are meticulously crafted by the user to give them the best chance of winning. The objective of the game is to climb your way through the 25 arenas, and level up your deck as you do so. While the premise may seem simple, there is something that game contains that has made it arguably the most popular mobile game of all time.

Jack Martin ‘27 sums up the addictive nature of the game  that pulls people in: “You’re always trying to get to the next arena, and when you win, all you wanna do is play again, and again.”

While Clash Royale has gone through ups and downs throughout the course of its tenure on the app store, it has remained one of the leading games in the world in terms of total downloads, and players. As of late, BHS students are not ashamed to admit that Clash Royale is currently experiencing an intense comeback, and is without a doubt their favorite phone game.

“I love the feeling of booting up Clash Royale, and hopping into a game,” said Colin Caggiano ‘27.

Clash Royale’s recent boom in popularity can best be summarized by its intriguing premise, and fun gameplay that draws users in at BHS.
