The Grammys Awards are prestigious awards given annually to high-achieving artists and groups in the music industry. There are many awards, but some of the most well-known awards consist of Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and many more ranging from genre to genre. Beginning in 1959, these awards are given out by the Recording Academy of the United States who vote on winners based solely on quality, nothing else.

The 2024 Grammy Awards were held on February 4th, 2024 and hosted by Trevor Noah inside of Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This year’s Grammy Awards recognized the best artists, albums, songs, and more from October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023. 

Arguably the most prestigious award in Grammys, Album of the Year, was won by Taylor Swift for her album Midnights. Midnights includes many of Swift’s popular songs including hits “Lavender Haze” and “Anti-Hero.” Not only did Midnights win Album of the Year, but it also won best pop vocal album of the year as well. The two Grammys were Swift’s 12th and 13th career Grammy. During her award speech, Swift also announced her new album, Tortured Poets Department which comes out on April 19th. 

Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas Eilish won Song of the Year for their hit “What Was I Made For.” After winning, Billie now has nine total Grammys won in her music career. Other nominees were “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift, “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa and Mark Ronson, and “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo. 

Along with all of the awards, there were some more serious actions that took place at the Grammys. Well-known rapper, Killer Mike, was arrested after winning three Grammys. He won Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album. Soon afterward, he was seen exiting the Crypto.com Arena in handcuffs. Reports would later come out that Killer Mike was originally booked with “Misdemeanor Battery,” but was released. 

Benjamin Costales 26’ said,  “I was very happy when Killer Mike won all the awards he was nominated for. Although I didn’t know during the Grammys, I was shocked to see that he had been arrested afterward. It’s just not something you would think would happen at the Grammy Awards.” 

Many artists were believed to have been deserving of an award but did not win a single award. Many people were shocked and even angered by the losses of artists like Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen (who didn’t even earn a nomination), Gunna, Doja Cat, and many more. 

Luis Mattos 26’ claims “Travis Scott most definitely deserved Best Rap Album. Travis Scott is way more popular than Killer Mike because his music is better. His album Utopia was especially good and much more popular than the album that actually won.”

Nevertheless, this year’s Grammy Awards were very entertaining. Multiple artists won their first-ever Grammy, some artists added to an already numerous collection of Grammy Awards won, there were crazy outfits, and there was even some legal action taking place.
