Bernards’ football team finished the season with an outstanding 12-1 record as well as being state sectional champions. This year’s team is also one of the greatest football teams in school history. The season included many memorable moments, like for instance, Coach Sims 100th career win against Hillside. Beating Del Val in the bowl game also brought the team a lot of excitement. While finishing the season, they also broke school records as player David Brothers set a school record for most sacks in a season. The previous sack record was 7.5 and was previously held by Marc Burns (2007).

David Brothers ‘24 stated, “Aboard the dutchman I learned the true value of suffering and from that adversity I was instilled with rudimentary and deep principle that taught me through teamwork a group of like minded men can use suffering to snatch glory from the jaws of defeat.”

David finished the season with 13 sacks to earn him the number 1 spot. Also, this year’s Bernard’s football team was number 1 with most points scored in a season, having 461, and remains as number 1 in the school’s history book. Special Teams has also killed it this year with kicker Jonas Gonzales setting another school record with 50 touch backs. Now that the football season is over, players have been working to prepare for the next season.

The Bernard’s boys soccer team also had a memorable season.

The soccer team finished the season with a 13 and 3 record winning its first sectional championship since 2019 with a 2-1 victory in the final round of the section 2 Group 2 tournament on November 5, but had an unfortunate loss to Ramsey to end their season . Even though they had their loss they made great memories.

Willian Candia Carnibella 25’ had won Valairco heating and cooling Bernard’s athlete of the week. Willian had 6 goals this season prior to the start of the tournament. Willian stated, “I’m so happy on finishing the season this way, it showed how hard we worked to make this season a good season and win something after not winning anything since 2019, I’m so proud of each of my teammates for working hard since the summer.”

As soccer finishes the season they get ready to prepare for the next season by lifting in the off season.

Bernard’s girls soccer also finished their season with a record of 13-5 and ending in the north 2 group 2 semi finals of girls soccer playoffs. With many players like Shannon Dill, Andee Costible, and Bailey Olsen making all-state for Bernards after having a great season. Not only that, but player Payton Zaun also led group 2 in assists for the season and was on Nj.com’s player of the year watch list. With many players being on the lookout next year this team hopes to make an even better season for the future.

As fall seasons come to a close new seasons begin with winter sports starting up. With sports like basketball, wrestling, track, and more getting ready to try and make a historic season happen.
