After winter sports have ended, many athletes look forward to this offsite activity. This activity is known as Boys Intramural Basketball. Intramural Basketball was introduced to students back in the Spring of 2020 where students came up with the idea to create a fun basketball league for after school hours. It became very popular very quickly with many students and athletes signing up. The way the league works is there are 5-7 Captains who have to be Seniors and they draft from a pool of underclassmen who signed up. After the draft is over, the league Commissioners put together a schedule for teams to play each other in an organized short season. After each team has completed their season, then they will be put into a playoff bracket which will lead into the final two teams playing each other in the Championship game.

After talking to student, Gabe Morales (Junior) about last year’s Intramural season, he said “Last year was an interesting season due to lack of players with basketball skill and knowledge on my team, but I had a great time and I got the opportunity to practice and improve my game in general.”

Intramural can be very competitive at times but the whole purpose of the league was to create a fun activity for students to participate in after school. With this year’s Intramural draft almost days away, captains including Hayden Byrne, Nate Schmerler, and Aidan Laverty are on the lookout for draft prospects to add to their teams. After talking with one of this year’s Captains, Hayden Byrne about who he wants on his team, he said “I’m looking for athletes who are willing to win.”

There is a lot of anticipation for this year’s season to start because of the amount of athletes and students signing up with almost a record high at 67 signees. Also, last year’s season came to a sudden stop with the Championship never being played and the Commissioners ghosting the players. The draft took place on February 17th at the infamous Laverty household. The first round picks include Connor Laverty (1), Gabriel Morales (2), Logan “Chewy” Marks (3), Terrence Hanratty ( So stay tuned for more updates on the season and make sure to mark your calendars in March!
