Barret sworn into Supreme Court

On October 31, 2020, Amy Coney Barrent became the nation’s latest justice to join the Supreme Court. The mother of seven and Long-term academic was an easy decision to nominate for some. Born in New Orleans Louisiana, She attended st. Mary’s Dominican High School. After graduation in 1990 she then attended Rhodes college and following that she attended Notre Dame law school . She graduated first in her class in 1997 winning the Juris doctor summa cude laude. The first two years after law school as a Law Clerk for Judge Laurence Silberman. Falling action became a law clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia. In her early career she also taught at schools such as George Washington University Law School, University of Virginia school of law and Notre Dame law school where she received the “Distinguished Professor of the Year award” three times.
In the court Barrett is described as a constitutionalist. This means the majority of her ideas derive from following fundamental laws written in the United States Constitution. She is also a devout Catholic but she has insisted many times that her faith will not interfere with her Court rulings. One of her mentors, professor Carazzo, a religious person himself, Believed it was understandable to question her possible religious interference on the court. He said, “But she has answered those questions forcefully… I fear she is now being reduced to an ideological caricature, and that pains me, knowing what a rich and thoughtful person she is.” Barrett has defended herself multiple times when being questioned about faith. “I would stress that my personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear in the discharge of my duties as a judge,” she once said. In the US press, however, her connections to a particularly conservative Christian faith group, People of Praise, have been discussed a lot under the topic of LGBTQ+ rights. Many believe she is a threat to this community regarding this group’s network of guidelines. This comes between their belief that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Lgbtq advocacy groups Regarded Barrett as a “Absolute threat to LGBTQ+ rights”. Along with that approach voice organization, The Guttmacher Institute, Disregarded her comments on LGBTQ+ rights and instead claimed a new conservative Court Justice would, “be devastating for sexual and reproductive health and rights’ ‘. They said this regarding the fact that there is an openly pro-life Supreme Court Justice.
