Spring Sports Update: Boys Track

After a successful last season for the Boys Track and Field team, they were looking forward to a repeat season. Runners Angelo Saez, Ryan Kleinert, Eddie Byers, and AJ Mino were ready for an exciting season, but unfortunately there hopes and dreams were crushed.

The seniors had this to say when being asked about their season potentially getting cancelled:

Will Perling: “I am upset about not having a senior season. It sucks that I cannot achieve better times than my personal bests.”

Hugo Gini: “It’s tough to have the season end before it even started. I know a lot of the throwers were excited for this upcoming season, having high expectations for ourselves.”

Charles Porr: “For the last four years running has been one of the main focuses of my life, and to face seeing my career end so abruptly and under such unfortunate circumstances pains me.”

Austin McCran: “It’s sad that a new favorite sport of mine was taken away in my last year in high school, I’m not letting it affect me that hard and I’m keeping a high spirit.”

Connor Flynn: ”It’s very sad to me I was looking forward to beating my javelin and shot putt prs and to show the freshman that the upperclassmen aren’t as scary as movies make them out to be”

Angelo Saez: “I’ve been running on my own because a lot of my motivation comes from myself. Running on the team for all these years taught me to be independent and I feel like if one season had to be like this I am best prepared my senior year since I can do a lot more to take care of my own practices. It’s an interesting challenge and I’m excited to see what happens.”

Dhruv Chaudry: “I had been really looking forward to spending another year with my teammates and improving my overall PR, but with this opportunity taken away, I feel like a large part of my life has been taken away from me.”

Ryan Kleinert: “Corona took away my last season of running. While there’s still a chance to come back, whatever there might be won’t be the same. I was not ready to be done with track and was really looking forward to running times that showed not only the hard work I put in this year, but through all 4 years of high school. It’s hard for seniors especially because this was our last season of high school, who knows what we could’ve done”

Eddie Byers: “It’s been especially hard to not only logistically find places to do workouts but it also has been especially hard to find the motivation to keep training. I just hope we still get a chance to compete after all the hard work we have put in for 4 years.”
