Bernards Girls Lacrosse are excited for another great season, just as they had last year, with the season quickly approaching. Bernards first scrimmage is on March 16 at four o’clock at Mountain Lakes High School. Bernards are hoping for the win over Mountain Lakes to help them for the games that will be counted in the season. Bernards has four games before their regular season commences. Their first real game is on March 30 at Verona High School. Unlike Mountain Lakes, Verona is going to be a much harder team to beat. Last year Verona was 14-7 overall, and even though Bernards had a better record, Verona is in a much harder conference, with Watchung Hills, Glen Ridge, etc. Last year Bernards ended their season extremely well with an overall record of 17-3 and 5-0 in their conference. The only three teams that Bernards lost to were Ridge, Watchung Hills, and Summit; all teams that are in a different, and much stronger conference.

There are five new seniors this year for Bernards that are going to make a big difference for the team. Those seniors are, Tegan Warren, who committed to Bucknell for lacrosse, Sam Mottes, Sophie Staller, Reagan Thomson, and Nicole Sullivan. They are all very excited for the season to begin, especially Nicole, and she said, “I’m most excited about the fact that we have the chance to win states. We have the potential to be one of the strongest teams in our group.” Even though this is their last season for Bernards, the seniors are happy that they’re are going to be a ton of sophomores who are going to play a huge role on varsity, as they did last year as freshmen. Tegan Warren is already assigned as the captain of the team, however after a week of the season, the whole team will vote to see who the second captain will be.
Bernards has a pretty tough schedule this year as they play teams in their conference and teams outside their conference. The schools in their conference are Phillipsburg, Delaware Valley, North Hunterdon, Somerville, and Montgomery. Although they might do extremely well in their conference, they also have to play schools such as, Pingry, Ridge, Mount Saint Mary’s, Watchung Hills, and Governor Livingston. Sophomore Annie Gillis said, “I am really excited to play Pingry and Watchung Hills. They are both great teams that are always super competitive and always come ready to play. With Watchung Hills we have definite rivalry and since we beat them twice last year, they will be coming after us for sure this year.” Bernards has a very competitive and challenging season ahead of them. Bernards has a mixed season in which they play games home and away. They do not play many home games or away games in a row. All of the games played at home are played on BHS Olcott Turf Field at 4, so that is convenient for any student who wants to go and cheer Bernards on.
