Bernards Girls Soccer have been having a great season so far. Girls Soccer record is 11-6 overall, and a 9-1 record in the Skyland Conference. Bernards’ only loss in the conference was against undefeated Somerville. This season, the defensive line of Bernards, senior Jesse Riordan, freshman Regan Chatwin, senior Avery Bolton, and junior Charlotte Grimm haven’t been conceding many goals. Bernards beat Immaculata, Voorhees, Delaware Valley, and Mount Saint Mary’s with a shutout. Senior Emily Maheras said, “We all have been working very well together as team, even with all the new incoming freshmen.” This year, Bernards have an entirely new team with big threats from freshman Makenna Davis and Elizabeth Coury.

The leading goal scorer Emily Maheras, has 10 goals, and Coury right behind her with seven. Sophomore Katelin Brito is at the top of the list with 14 assists, and is tied for third in the upper 90 sophomore stat leaders for eight consecutive weeks. Bernards last game in their conference is against top-ranked Somerville on Tuesday at home. They are looking for their last win of the season, putting them in a good seed for states. Bernards seniors, Avery Bolton, Jesse Riordan, Nicole Sullivan, and Emily Maheras all said, “We are very excited about states and we all want to go all the way to win it all!” This is the senior’s last year, so they are hoping to go a lot further then the third round, as they did last year.

Yesterday’s game against Robbinsville, Bernards won 4-0. All the goals were scored in the first half of the game. Brito had two goals and one assist, Coury had one goal and one assist, Maheras had one assist, junior Claudia Prandoni had one goal, and freshman Elyse Reed had one assist. This game was the first round of states, so Bernards moves on to play second seated Holmdel away on Thursday.
