Dheirya Tyagi is a senior here at Bernards High School who has always been fascinated and intrigued by the stem field.
His personal goal is to “[go] to college and continue his passion as an electrical engineer.” Sitting in class, he couldn’t help but notice the different ways in which his peers were struggling. These struggles included, “The way some material was taught, some steps being explained too quickly, or because necessary steps were skipped.”
He felt a passion to help alleviate the anxiety, and created educational accounts on Tik Tok and YouTube called “Simple Explanations.” These accounts go over the exact material that is taught in class. His main goal through his accounts is to help his peers thoroughly understand the content, as he continues to “hope they get a better understanding and that they try to see how it makes sense beyond just numbers, and how it makes intuitive sense.”
Little did he know the impact he would soon make on 2,037 followers on Tik Tok, and counting. He has received hundreds of different comments stating that his videos have helped students study for tests, and or do better on SATs. He explains how in the beginning it was awkward to adjust to filming himself speaking into a camera, but as he started posting more regularly it got easier for him to speak and go through material. His love for science has continued to increase throughout his high school career, as he continues to stay heavily involved in science clubs.
Specifically, Dheria has shown lots of interest in the robotics club where he “builds projects and hosts workshops for stem, as well as attend stem competitions.” He points out some teachers that have helped with his science career including, “ Mr. Koch, Dr. Ferrara, and Mrs. Faletta, and a friend, Lucian Spiteri.”
Lucian Spiteri ‘26 mentions that he has “Helped a decent amount” with Dheirya’s videos, with the exception of the video ideas and projects that Dheirya has done solo. They have completed projects together for Hackathons, (technology competitions) and have posted them on his socials, with the help of Joseph Kalinowski. Spiteri explains that their largest project they did together ended up being the “Main staple of Dheirya’s MIT maker portfolio.” He also highlights that during AP season last school year, Dheirya’s videos were the “Most popular” ones for AP physics and calculus, with many people posting their gratitude for the helpful tutorials. Most of Dheirya’s physics classmates use his review videos to help study for heavy exams.
