Knicks make playoff push with OG Anunoby trade

The 2023-2024 NBA season has without question been one of the most eventful seasons of the last decade. With teams like the Timberwolves and the Thunder becoming top three in the western conference standings, and young superstars like Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Halibuten having breakout years, this season is one for the record books. Not only have we seen impressive teams and players, but we have also seen some historically terrible teams. The Detroit Pistons set the NBA record with 28 straight losses. Luckily, NBA fans are seeing more superstars than ever with players like Joel Embiid, Shai Gileouis Alexander, and Nikola Jokic. However, one of the biggest stories of the last couple weeks in the NBA has been the trades between the New York Knicks, and the Toronto Raptors.

On Saturday (December 30th) The Knicks and the Raptors finalized a trade in which OG Anunoby, Malachi Flynn, and Precious Achiuwa would be sent to New York. There have been a couple other trades here and there throughout the year, but the Knicks trade has been the most significant. The Raptors received RJ Barrett, and Emmanuel Quickley in return. Over the last week arguments have arised about which team won the

trade. So far it’s been close as both teams are seeing very impressive numbers from their new players. On Sunday, RJ Barret had 37 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 steal. Additionally, Immanuel Quickly has been averaging 19 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds since joining the raptors.

However, the Raptors are not the only team in this trade who benefited. Since the trade, the Knicks have gone 4-0 and they have beaten some really good teams ,including the Timberwolves and the 76ers. OG Anunoby had 26 points against the Wizards on Saturday, and has been averaging 12 points, 4.6 rebounds, and almost 2 steals a game. His defense has significantly helped the Knicks. It’s still early, but so far it is safe to say that both teams are in a better position now than before the trade.
