A delicious dinner between family and friends, always filled with tradition!

Thanksgiving is full of family, friends, and fun! It also comes along with many traditions like buying turkey, making desserts, gathering with family, and cooking delicious foods. Every family has their own unique Thanksgiving traditions like Alexa Paterno ‘25: “I go to my grandma’s house, we watch football and have a delicious dinner.”

According to YouGovAmerica, 83% of people in America have turkey at Thanksgiving dinner, 78% have mashed potatoes, 74% have rolls, and 67% eat ham. There are so many varieties of Thanksgiving dinners, but those are the most popular. Many Thanksgiving dinners include traditional dishes like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, green beans, gravy, cornbread, sweet potatoes, and pie. Lila Beckerman ‘25 shares, “Every Thanksgiving I have homemade mashed potatoes.” Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday where families bond over cooking, baking, and with these, making tons of memories. Although dinner is an important part of the holiday, people celebrate Thanksgiving in many different ways.

Some people travel over the holiday, others spend time outside playing football with their family and some participate in Turkey Trots. Lucinda Putnam ‘25 shares her Thanksgiving tradition: “I’m going to Massachusetts to visit family, and I’m really excited to see my aunt, uncle, and cousins. We go every year, and every year my family and I get matching turkey pajamas to wear on Thanksgiving.”

In addition, tons of families participate in Turkey Trots while others play and watch football with their families. Eva Malleo ‘25 shares her Turkey Trot experience, “Maggie Dolan and I first did our town’s Turkey Trot last year and ever since then, we decided to make it a tradition! It is such a fun way to begin the day!” All families celebrate the holiday differently, making it special for all families across the nation. Overall, there’s a huge variety of traditions for Thanksgiving and they are all special in their own way!
