Spring Sports Update: Baseball

Spring+Sports+Update%3A+Baseball

The baseball team was very much looking forward to the upcoming season. After a winning season last year that included two county victories, the team had high hopes coming into 2020. Especially after the team won two preseason scrimmages in their preseason trip to Florida, they were very much looking forward to the season.

The team only lost two seniors from the 2019 season, so there was a plethora of returning talent. Returning talent included star pitchers David Iaione and Andrew Holmes, as well as Captain and MCC commit Ryan Falduto.

The Seniors said this when asked about their last season potentially getting cancelled:

“It is upsetting that the virus could ruin our last season in high school sports ever” – Colin Walsh

“I’ve grown up with these kids and played baseball with them since a very young age. We have been through a lot together and the thought of our final season being potentially cancelled would be devastating.” – Tom Orlic

“Most of our team has played baseball their entire lives, it would be brutal to see our final season cancelled. My experience in the program has been tremendous, which makes the potential of our senior season being cancelled even more devastating.” – Noah Gagnon

“It feels like we’ve been building up to this season since we were 12, and it would be a shame to see it go to nothing. To be real, its really tough not being able to play with the guys one last time.”“It feels like we’ve been building up to this season since we were 12, and it would be a shame to see it go to nothing. To be real, its really tough not being able to play with the guys one last time.” – Eddy Gambelli

“Knowing that it could be canceled really does stink and hits hard because it’s your last time playing baseball with guys that you have been playing with for most of your life. These 4 years in the program have been a fun, learning experience for me. I am grateful to have played with all my teammates that have gone through this program while I have been. It’s been fun” – Ryan Falduto

“I’ll feel upset about it because this would be my last year playing baseball. Most of the guys in my grade I’ve been playing with since little league. But I’d rather have everyone at home safe if that’s what it takes to get rid of this virus.” – Tyler Prusina

“Our team had a lot of potential, especially because we had such a good record as freshmen playing against other freshmen, so it would’ve made sense for us to have a good record as seniors playing against other seniors. We essentially have the same team from last year with a couple new additions, and we all got stronger. This would have been the perfect storm for a successful senior season, so it is disappointing that it had to end before it even started. I’m glad that we at least had the Florida trip to end on one last win as a team.” – James Kessler
