The wrestling team’s season came to an end recently. They finished 11-6, and the team sent one person down to Atlantic City for the NJSIAA State Championships. Junior Luke Burns placed second in the District Tournament and represented Bernards in the tournament, facing off against the top wrestlers in the state.
Luke won his first round matchup 9-3 in a decision bout against Lower Cape May’s Brandon Castillo.
He then advanced to the next round where he lost the match 5-4 against Elijah Lugo from Wayne Valley.
Burns had a short, but extremely successful season wrestling at the 160 pound weight class.
“It was an unreal experience, just getting there was a dream come true,” said Burns after his final match of the year. “Hopefully I’ll be able to go back next year and bring [a state championship] home to Bernards.”
