Spring sports preview

With winter sports coming to an end, All of the spring sports are looking to make their respective runs for a championship. 

Boys Lacrosse

After a heartbreaking one goal loss in the state semifinals last year to Caldwell, the boys lacrosse team is looking to come back for a state championship. After being moved up into the highest division in the state, and not having the season anticipated, they were moved into the waterman division. To start the preseason the boys will be taking a trip down to Florida from March 23 to the 27, to better prepare them for the season. Also the boys have added three division one commits with more on the way. This could be the season the boys lacrosse team finally gets their championship after falling short two years in a row. After losing key players Harry Kaufman, Nick Paterno, Sean Doran, and Zach Zukowsky, young returning players Finn Vaccaro, Caden Kirst, Jake Caldwell, David Brothers, and Charlie Hunnewell are all looking to step up and fill the gaps of the graduated players. Returting starter Charlie Vaccaro on how he feels about the upcoming season: “I feel like we have a really good shot at winning states this year. We have a really strong core of experienced guys who want to win. Also super pumped to play with both of my brothers this year.” This team is going to be a team to watch as a top group-one team in the state. 

Girls Lacrosse

The girls lacrosse team has a new look, hiring head coach Kelsey Ryan. Coming off a loss in the first round against lower cape may, the Girls lacrosse team is looking for another exciting year. Returning players include Kayla Davi, Courtney Davis, Ellie Thoms, Addison Chishom, and Alexa Paterno. Some of the graduating seniors included Casey Falduto and Emily Ramino. Junior Mckenah Schilp on how she sees the upcoming season: “I am excited to see how our team will perform and what the season will bring with our new coach.”

Softball

Coming off an amazing seventeen and six season that resulted in a trip to the group two sectional finals. The girls softball team is looking to continue its winning ways. Players coming back include Maddie Lardireri, Gina Mahlik, Alex Pagonis, Caitlyn Sebastian, and Risa and Maddie Rivetti. Junior Maddie Lardieri on how she feels about the upcoming season: “ I’m excited for our pre-season trip to Florida and to see what our season brings after such successes last year.” 

Baseball

After graduating players Austin Tondo, and Aubrey Fresalone, the baseball team is going to quickly look to fill those gaps with returning players Charlie Gonnella, Connor Laverty and Matt Guntia. Senior Alex Fragassi feels “really excited to play with a great group of kids my senior year. We have a few new kids playing that I think will really help us.” Alex is looking to contribute to what could be a deep playoff run in his senior year.

Golf

The golf team is back in full swing, after an exciting 7-4 year. Looking to compete heavily in the Skyland Conference. With lots of expectations Junior Simon Bramwit weighs his opinion on the upcoming season: “It’s all a mental game. You go out there feeling good, you’re going low that day. I always try to get dialed in before each match.” Juniors Hayden and Cutter Kreikemeir are also looking to contribute to the run for a championship. 

Track and Field

After an exciting winter season the track and field team is looking to continue to perform well with big contributor Pat Griffin looking to lead the way. The team looks to win another sectional title, following their winter title. 

Boys Tennis

After an impressive 20-6 season, going 8-0 in the division and winning a North Jersey Section 2 group 1 championship, the tennis team looks to bounce back for another exciting season. The push for a repeat starts with junior Fin Spitaleri
