Andy Murray, two time Grand Slam tournament winner, is one of the most famous British tennis players of all time. According to wikipedia.com, Andy Murray is tied 5th all time in singles titles, tied with the American Pete Sampras. However, he has not had very much luck in Grand Slam tournament finals, losing 7 times. The all of these losses are to world #1 Novak Djokovic, and former #1 Roger Federer. After recently falling short of expectations, he has parted with his former coach, Amelie Mauresmo. Mauresmo, a former #1 women’s tennis player, recently had a child, and had to take 6 months off of coaching. After announcing their split, Mauresmo said, according to the New York Times , “dedicating enough time along with the travel has been a challenge for me.” Murray also shared concerns about her time dedication, as he released has released statement, and he said, “There was not enough time spent together.” Murray was one of the first highly ranked male tennis professionals to hire a female coach. Assistant coach, Jamie Delgado, is currently acting as a head coach. Now, the race is on for Murray to hire a new coach before the next major, which is Wimbleton. One of the main candidates for Murray’s head coach is Ivan Lendl. Ivan Lendl was Andy Murray’s previous coach, and under his guidance, Murray won both of his Grand Slam titles. Ivan Lendl, who was originally from Czechoslovakia, became a US citizen in 1992. Lendl is a former world #1 tennis player, and has won 8 Grand Slam titles, and has gotten to the final of 11 more. He reached the final of a Grand Slam for 11 consecutive years, a record that has only been tied by Pete Sampras. Ivan Lendl is seen to be the perfect candidate by many for a Andy Murray’s head coach. Only time will tell if Andy Murray will hire Ivan Lendl his coach.
