On September 25th, Bernards High school held multiple successful events, starting with the annual club fair and concluding with Back to School Night.
The day began during the lunch period when the club fair was held in the main area of the media center. Club leaders throughout the weeks prior made poster boards to showcase their club, trying to gain members from incoming freshmen among other students.
The media center was jam packed with students, all looking to become a part of the high school community by joining various clubs. Students were able to walk around to various setups, put down their information, and join the Google Classroom page. Certain clubs gave away pieces of candy as a reward for students enrolling in the Google Classroom. Clubs that were showcasing their information include Garden Club, the Pinnacle, and Campbell’s Flutterflies Club.
Tech and Robotics club stole the show, showcasing a fully lifesize and functioning Pac-Man machine, centered in the middle of the media center. Cameron Bong ‘27 says “the club fair is important because it shows all the clubs in one spot, giving freshman and new students the ability to become involved within the community of BHS”.
As for the second half of the night, BHS held a back to school night for the students’ parents to meet the teachers. This was also a chance for the parents to meet the members of the Peer Leader program, as the student leaders helped parents navigate the halls. The peer leaders were spread out throughout the hallways, helping out the disoriented parents find their next classroom. Peer Leader Charlie Quinn ‘27 exclaims, “It was a great experience to introduce ourselves to parents and demonstrate the leadership that Bernards is capable of outputting.”
BHS principal Dr. Neigel and HSA co-president Laura Gallagher kicked off the night, each giving speeches over the intercom. Next, Julia Schmidt ‘26, a peer leader, announced that parents should be in their period one class. Parents spent eight minutes in each period class, and were allocated four minutes to get to their next class in between periods. Parent and teacher Ms. Jennifer Adams says, “[Back to School Night] is so important because school is such a huge part of your child’s life, and this event is our one chance to get an inside look into your child’s life and see what they’re doing all day.”
BHS hosted two very successful events on September 25th that demonstrated the strength of the school community and school spirit.
