On Tuesday, May 21, the BHS baseball took on Lenape Valley high on senior night. Bernard’s ended up winning 3-0, Casey Hoeckele ‘26 threw a complete game shutout, with 12k’s. All the senior players had a great day, Matty Stefani ‘25 and David De Pierro ‘25 each with hits and good days in the field, and Matt Falzarano ‘25 made good contact at the plate and threw a runner out stealing.
It was a very special senior night for our baseball team, as they not only celebrated the accomplishments of the players, but also honored Bryce Rosen, who passed away in 2021. Bryce was an amazing person who brightened up everyone’s day, he loved the sport of baseball and always showed up ready to compete.
Coach Falzarano, the head coach for BHS baseball says, “Bryce was a special person in our lives. His love for baseball was unparalleled and his smile when on the field was infectious. But he was also very, very competitive!”
David De Pierro ‘25, who will be attending Middlesex College next year to continue his baseball career, says, “It was a joy to see us come together and remember the life of Bryce Rosen.”
The team all wore custom shirts, highlighting the BR5 letters on the front. On the back of the jerseys, everyone wore a number 5 to honor Bryce’s favorite number. Before the first pitch, Matt Falzarano ‘25, Matty Stefani ‘25, and David De Pierro took one of the shirts the team wore and placed it in left field in honor of Bryce. For the first pitch of the game, the jersey was laid in left field before Tyler Pace ‘26 ran out and changed into Bryce’s uniform .
Matty Stefani ‘25 says “it was a great experience that gave us the chance to honor Bryce, which was very special.”
Matt Falzarano ‘25 is going to Kean University next year to continue his baseball career as a catcher, Matt says, “it’s crazy how fast these four years have gone by. Celebrating senior day with my other senior teammates for all these years and honoring Bryce has made this an unforgettable day.”
After the win, the team now has a winning record of 11-10, and are really looking forward to making a good run in the playoffs. The seniors played a huge role this season, and to have their senior day honoring Bryce made it unforgettable.
