The winter sports season is now underway and the Bernards High School swim team has begun practicing and competing with other schools.  The first practice was on November 17th in preparation for the first meet of the season against Belvidere. Both the boys’ and girls teams won this meet.  The girls won 125-42 and the boys’ team won 123-41.  Last season both boys and girls teams competed in Skyland Conferences and States, which they will be competing in again this year. “It was a strong season and we hope to improve,” Junior Lucy Grey says. Usually both teams compete in the same events. Both teams are enthusiastic about how the season has gone so far, and excited to continue swimming this season.  The boys team has had a record of 2-2 so far, while the girls team has had a record of 2-2 as well.  The captains for the 2014-2015 season include Seniors Tatiana Prendella, Isabella St. Onge, Tess Mistretta, Madigan Petrie, and Lauren Canaan for the girls team as well as Seniors Manny Vazquez and Wesley Lui, and Junior Ben Baxter for the boys team. The coaches returning for this season include Ed Tsuzuki, Tom Lawson, and Christine Albanese-DeMair. Many swimmers are excited to get the opportunity to continue competing for the remainder of the season.  Senior Lucy Grey says that some goals for the rest of the season include “improving everyone’s personal records and making it farther into states.”
