Thanksgiving food prices increase before the holiday

Thanksgiving+food+prices+increase+before+the+holiday

As we’re just days away from Turkey Day, studies have shown that this has been one of the most expensive Thanksgiving ever. The main and root causes for an increased cost of Thanksgiving are an increase of Inflation and a 1.3 trillion dollar bill that was just passed by Congress (all have to deal with soaring prices of thanksgiving).

Officials and critics were estimating that this was going to be a “pricey” Thanksgiving in early-to mid-October. Americans are upset at the government for the increasing prices and it has developed into a huge controversy and difficulty for the government.

Corn being a popular Thanksgiving product that is served on Thanksgiving and a majority of what Turkeys feed on, increased to poor harvests this year according to the Farming Bureau. The item most affected by far for Thanksgiving is sweet potatoes. They have an increased price of 220%. Business Insider believes that the reason for such a dramatic increase in the cost of the sweet potato is “due to poor harvest this year and last year.”

Turkey is up 10% in 2021 and for a 16 pound turkey, it will cost, on average $23.99. Last year, the cost of a 16 pound turkey was $21.76.

In 2020, the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner was about $46.90. This year there is a $5 jump and an increase of 14% from years prior. NPR believes that the cost for a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people this year “will be about $53.31.” The upward trend of the cost of Thanksgiving does not affect middle to higher income homes, but it does have a more prominent effect on the lower income house as all thanksgiving food products are increased.
