Black Friday 2016

Every year, the Friday after Thanksgiving is anxiously awaited. Just hours after spending quality time with family, many find themselves in line to get the best Black Friday deals. Some think it is more important than Thanksgiving, while others label it as too chaotic. In malls and shopping centers all over the world, this day is by far the busiest of the year. With huge deals everywhere, people pour into these malls at crazy hours, some starting at midnight and going for twenty-four hours straight.  Stores and customers plan for this day months in advance. There is a whole website dedicated to Black Friday and stores such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and many others are already advertising their deals.

Students at Bernards are among the many that look for deals on Black Friday. Many go for the extremely low prices of clothes, electronics, and more. For many families, it’s a tradition to line up for Black Friday. It is a family tradition in junior Olivia Gill’s family to go shopping every year on this day, and she states that, “for us it’s not only an opportunity to get great deals but a fun family tradition for all the girls to go and we have carried this on for many years and hope to have many more to come”. Tons of Bernards students come back from Thanksgiving break sporting new outfits that they got for great prices, bragging to others about their amazing deals on high-end items. Since Bernards is such a fashion-focused school, this is a popular day in this area.

Some students prefer to stay close to home on Black Friday, doing their shopping at Bridgewater Commons Mall, a popular spot among students. Other students, however, travel down the shore for Black Friday. Some popular stores to shop at on Black Friday are PacSun, GameStop, American Eagle, and Lulu Lemon.

Although Black Friday is very popular among students, many opt to stay home and shop for great deals on Cyber Monday. On Cyber Monday, many stores have huge sales online. It’s perfect for those who prefer to stay home rather than deal with the chaos of Black Friday, such as student Lauren Browne who said, that the “dangers of black friday are not worth it if you can just order online during Cyber Monday”. However, Black Friday is still a tradition for many, and many do enjoy the hectic day.

This year, Black Friday falls on November 25th. So, whether you decide to stay home or go out for this renown shopping day, you will for sure see many Bernards students wearing new apparel the day we get back from Thanksgiving break.screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-9-50-27-am
