American Music Awards

Watched by over eleven million viewers and seen in more than 160 countries, the American Music Awards will be on November 20, 2016 on ABC 8:00-11:00 PM EST! The show will be held in the Microsoft Theater in LA. The first AMAs was held in 1973 by ABC, and so this year will be the 43rd AMAs. Madison Case, a student here at BHS, reflects many students opinions about the show, which is that, “The performances are the best part about the entire show.” Celebrities such as Bruno Mars (set to open), Green Day, Sting, Lady Gaga, Twenty One Pilots, James Bay and Fifth Harmony, The Chainsmokers and Halsey, Carlo Vives with Shakira are all set to perform throughout the show. The AMAs, however, have yet to announce who will be hosting this year.

Two nominees to look out for this year are Drake and Rihanna. Drake breaks the record this year for the most nominations in one year with thirteen nominations, and Rihanna comes in with seven. While Drake has become insanely popular in the past year, some feel that he is not worthy of all thirteen; Jacob Sugarman, a sophomore at BHS, feels that while, “Drake had one or two really good songs, his overall album was okay.” To vote for the winners of each category, fans can go onto the AMA website and on Twitter. The fact that fans are voting for the winners makes the AMAs unique from the Grammys, where the winners are determined members of the Rotating Academy. Some of the most popular categories and their nominees are:
