Local Fall Events

Looking for fun fall events to go to with friends this season? Here’s a list of fall festivities that are both close and cost-efficient.

 Pumpkin Picking

Pumpkin Picking is a perfect fall weekend event with friends. The nearest pumpkin picking farms are Wightman’s Farm in Morristown and Alstede Farm in Chester. Wightman’s is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Alstede runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Both Wightman’s and Alstede Farms have other attractions as well, such as corn mazes, apple picking, apple cider, and donuts.

Frightfest at Schafer’s Farms

Frightfest at Schafer’s Farms is a four part adventure will be sure to leave you frightened. The 45 minute scare session starts off with a Haunted Hayride through Schafer’s Farms. Next, you are dropped off at a random location and must walk the “Trail of Terror” to find your way back. Once completed, participants make their way through the “Massacre Maize” and end their journey with “The Carnival of Chaos”. Frightfest is open all fall season and is located at Schafer’s Farms in Flemington. Admission is $30 for all four attractions.

Haunted Houses

Haunted Houses always make for an interesting night. Among the most popular haunted houses in New Jersey are the Bane Haunted House in Livingston and the Haunted Scarehouse in Wharton. The Bane Haunted House, named “The Scariest Haunted House in New Jersey” by The Star-Ledger, officially opens on September 23rd at 10 p.m. The Haunted Scarehouse opens its doors September 23rd is open year-round Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets for the Bane Haunted house can be purchased for $27 on the online website, www.banehauntedhouse.com.

Apple Picking

Apple picking, a world-wide fall favorite, is yet another attraction our area has to offer. Wightman’s Farm in Morristown, along with many other farms in this area offer apple picking in their vast apple orchards. With an average cost of $9 per ten pounds and $15 per twenty pounds, apple picking at Wightman’s Farm is an inexpensive and fun fall experience for people of all ages.

The Hunt

96th Annual Far Hills Race Meeting, also known as The Hunt, is taking place this year on Saturday, October 15th. The Hunt is a large social event which attracts college kids returning home to attend. Gates open to the public at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m., admission is $100. Tickets can be purchased at Gary’s, Kings, Monterey Gourmet, and Peapack-Gladstone Bank in Bernardsville as well as Far Hills Pharmacy, Kings, and Peapack-Gladstone Bank in Bedminster.
