Winter track started with a bang right after thanksgiving with head coach Mrs.morris and the new distance coach Mr. LaChac. The team this year is much smaller than previous years, there are at least half as many people but that is just pushing the athletes to truly be the best that they can be in their events. The new distance coach, Mr. LaCach, is also currently a history teacher at the Bernardsville Middle school and in an interview said,

“I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I feel as though I won the lottery, in a district with such welcoming staff and terrific students.” he said.  and when asked about why he wanted to also coach he said, “I have always loved running and teaching. The alignment of these two passions naturally brought me to the path of coaching. One of the many reasons I was interested in Bernardsville, as an area to teach, was the prestige and history of success in the distance running program. Coach Szostak has run an incredibly impressive program that I feel honored to be a part of.”

As the season goes on Mr.LaChac has brought many new things to the team and when asked about what he wants to bring to the team he said, “ If this question was asked to the team, I am sure the answer would be, “REALLY fun core and abdominal workouts,” without a second thought to be spared. However, I am bringing passion, unique workouts fostering and perpetuating healthy running form, and hopefully after collaboration about workouts, a continuation of what Coach Szostak brings to the table with his time coaching at Bernardsville.”

Coach LaCac hopes to improve and better the distance team with endurance and training which will lead to personal and official records.

“With the improvement of conditioning, technique, and routines the only outcome can be a better team.” he said.

Ms. Morris is also shaking up the training and daily routines of the sprinters, jumpers and throwers hoping to improve the athletes to their best abilities.

With the weather not as cold as usual for December the training for winter track has been more intense and effective. The coaches and athletes are hoping that this weather stays for a little longer so they can stay training outside for as long as possible until they are forced inside.
