After coming off of an excellent Cross Country season the hopes for this year’s winter track are high. This year Mrs, Morris will be taking on the task of being head coach but will be on maternity leave in mid season so coach Szostak will take her place when she leaves. With every new year there is a huge loss of seniors and this year happens to be a big one. The team has lost some critical girls and boys such as Taylor Murphy (hurdles, 4×400), Danielle Aharoni (4×400, pole vault), Sydney Rudin (4×400, hurdles, 800), Will hows (800, 1600, 2300), Alex Russo (4×400, pole vault) and Quentin Petty (4×400, hurdles, 800). With the loss of these seniors the team is really going to have to pull together and work hard. Although there will be a big loss there are still strong runners returning to the team such as Ava Cummings, Keira Cullen, Richard Gruters, Stuart Gruters, Elee Khademi, Earnie Combrara, Sean Sullivan, Abigail Ferreira, Connor Roehr and many more. There are also some high hopes for the freshman joining the team such as Heather Wright and Sage Rudolph who came off of a great Cross Country season. are some new meets this year such as a brand new indoor track at

Staten Island, at this facility there is a Hydraulic track or a banked track which makes the turns much easier because the track is split into 200 meters instead of a standard 400 meter outdoor track. There are also more traditional meets such as the Armory and the Hispanic Games which is also held at the Armory.

“This year’s success will be determined by the amount of effort put in by everyone on the team.” said Stuart Gruters a sophomore.

Everyone is hoping for a good season full of wins and new school and personal records. The goals this year are to make it to nationals and meet of champions which puts a lot of pressure on all the athletes but with a schools history as strong as Bernard’s in track and field the path looks pretty steady from here on out.
