Don’t shop, adopt!

If you’re ready to adopt a pet into your life, it’s important to be educated on the importance of adopting from a shelter versus buying from a breeder or a store. An estimated 3.7 million unwanted pets are killed every year because they are not adopted. By adopting from a shelter rather than buying from a pet store or a breeder, you’re increasing the longevity of your animal’s life and reducing the overall population of pets around the world.

1.You’re saving a life:

The number of euthanized and killed cats and dogs would be reduced by 1,000s if more people adopted pets instead of buying them from a breeder or a puppy mill. When you adopt, you save a life, find a friend for life, and open up shelter space for another animal who might need it and will be put in a kill shelter without it.

2. The prices are cheaper in a shelter 100s of dollars of savings:

3. You’re fighting puppy mills:

Puppy mills are factory style adoption centers that put their profit before the welfare and health of the animals. Animals that live in this style adoption centers are housed in horrible living conditions. They’re kept alone in small cages with sometimes no protection for their feet on the caged floor. They’re left for possibly days at a time in their cage without exercise or human touch. The mothers of the puppies and kittens are horribly mistreated as well. They spend their whole life giving birth to babies and reproducing. This takes a huge toll on the mother’s health. When the mother can’t reproduce anymore, she is often killed. Puppy mills also don’t care about the genetic quality of the animals so there are generations of animals with problems such as dental problems and limb deformation. By adopting instead of buying from stores, you’re not supporting these horrible living conditions for the animals.

4. The shelters make adopting an easier process:

Adopting through a shelter is easier than adopting from a breeder or a store. Go to shelterpetproject.com to find pets near you. You can select a size, color, and even a breed. This is much easier than going to a store and picking out a puppy mill dog. Some people think if you adopt through a shelter you can’t get a purebred but that is not the case at all.

5. You’ll meet a new best friend in the process:

Pets from adopted shelters offer unconditional love and a relationship that will last years to come. When adopting a pet, you’re saving not only your pets life, but opening a new spot for another pet as well. You’ll be changing an animal’s life and giving them a new

When you adopt a pet from a shelter, the majority of the time the pet is already spayed or neutered by the adoption center. As well as being spayed and neutered, the pet’s first vaccinations and microchipping are normally included in vet care! That’s over home and love.
