The Boys’ Fencing Team at BHS has had a successful season so far, and they hope to close it out with a win at the last New Jersey state tournament. They are currently sitting at a 8-5 record, tied for fourth place in their district. They will be promoted to third if they get the next win, which will be their last chance for the season. When asked how one of the team captains, Senior Tristan Decker, is feeling about the upcoming match, he said “My epee [type of weapon class] team won districts, cetrulo, and squad-states, which were last won by this school in 2006. I feel very confident.”

This season, BHS has been dominant in its victories, and kept their losses very close. Reflecting on the season, Junior Jack Topping stated that “It was a good season, we had a great run, and I’m overall very happy about this season.” When asked about his fencers’ performances, Coach Jared Hammond said “My fencers have gone above and beyond my expectation. They have truly given 110% of their effort.”

Freshman Zack Yung said, “[This is a] great team to be a part of. The coaches are great and the players are supportive also. Hopefully one day, I’ll be the captain, and I’ll have to take on the role of teaching others, just like my captains did for me this year.” He, and other underclassmen fencers, are looking with anticipation toward future seasons.
