Arguably one of the biggest highlights of every Junior’s year in high school would be the Junior Prom. This year, the Junior Prom was held on Friday April 15, 2016 at the Basking Ridge Country Club. Most of the junior class also opted to prepare for the night at different homes before going to the dance, mainly where all the photo ops are taken. The dance started at 7:30, and finished off at around 10, with over 160 students in attendance. Cost of admission was $70 per ticket, with a large portion of the money made going towards events the Junior class will have next year, including Senior Prom.

Prom is a lucrative business, with students spending money on not just tickets, but hair, dresses, nails, tans, and shoes. For the Juniors, it was no different, as Sophomore Allie Shaw says, “Everyone looked stunning.” Typically, underclassmen who attend either Senior or Junior prom wear shorter dresses, while girls within the designated grade tend to opt for longer style dresses. Money spent is not just on the girls, as the boys bought corsages for their dates and rented tuxes to match. Though usually prom dress shopping offers more options than renting a tux, some students decided to “spice up” their attire, including Junior Nick DiBias, who wore an all white tuxedo.

Once at the prom, Juniors were treated to a buffet at the Basking Ridge Country Club. The buffet included dinner favorites such as Penne Vodka pasta, Braised short ribs, Lemon chicken, chicken parmigiana and salad. “The food was amazing,” Junior Emily Och states.

As for the actual dance portion of the night, DJ Mike from Vidsound played the latest pop and hip hop hits. Junior Emily Och states, “The only thing I would change would be the music but besides that, everything else was amazing.” Though some wished for more “throwback” hits to be played, that did not stop those in attendance from dancing. Allie Shaw said, “The highlight of my night was when the juniors crowded in a circle and just started going crazy, it was hilarious.”

A final way to celebrate Prom and capture the night was a photo booth with props allowing small or large groups to go in the booth to take memorable photos, allowing students to upload their fair share of Snapchat videos and Instagram photos. Students would like to say that it was the crowning moment of their year.
